This how to for Graphic Chipset Intel i915
If you try to enable Visual effect and getting error like this:

this is howto fix and enable desktop effect(compiz)
Code:
sudo apt-get purge nvidia-*
sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-intel libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-core
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
sudo update-alternatives --remove gl_conf /usr/lib/nvidia-current/ld.so.confthen restart

Is it just that using nvidia? because I use the intel 945GM

what are your graphics card or chipset you are using?
If it possible please send logfile Xorg.0.log to me.
The current X server attempts to auto-configure itself, which works most of the time, but occasionally will result in an improperly selected video driver. In some cases it may not be able to determine the right driver at all, and will default to -vesa.

This fix allowed me to enable desktop effects and compiz on my Acer Aspire One.
No errors or anything, each command, reboot, enable.

year thancks work 100% with HP G72 chipset intel H55.
Compiz work ....100% with correctif.

farr311 told me that his laptop is using intel graphic card,and blackbuntu doesnt enable the compiz on it,he again install blackbuntu and put another layer on the blackbuntu with ubuntu.with that problem solve.i dont know how he done that but he just mention to me
